Microwave Dyeing Technique
Published: Thursday, October 27, 2011
Dyeing in the microwave can be done when tie-dyeing and marbling fabric, and up to a yard can be dyed.
The result will appear marbled with light and dark areas. Wax-less batik dyeing and dyeing paper can also be done in the microwave. It's quick and easy to do! It's important to never dye rayon, wool or garments with metal trim, like zippers, snaps and studs. Nylon is very heat sensitive so when dyeing in the microwave, heat in short increments of 15 - 30 seconds (1 minute total) and watch fabric closely. Very sheer nylon interfacing should not be dyed in the microwave. Also, it's not necessary to use salt, vinegar or detergent when dyeing in the microwave.
