The latest innovation to hit the UK knitting market has arrived in the form of Aardvark yarn, a high-end, luxury product which launches today.
Aardvark yarn is the latest specialism in a market which has recently witnessed many new rival alternatives to traditional sheeps' wool, such as possum yarn, as consumers increasingly demand point of difference and strive to create pieces as unique and individual as they are.
“We're trialling the product in around 20 retailer outlets up and down the country, with a plan to roll out to further outlets throughout the rest of the year,” explains Otis Fewel, managing director of Pulleg Products. “We're aiming at the new breed of knitters that want something trendy and unique, and who aren't afraid to try something a bit different. In fact, our research shows they are crying out for something like this.”
Aardvark yarn is said to be very light and soft, yet its durable nature means garments keep shape and wash well. “This is a high-end yarn for serious knitters who are fed up having the wool pulled over their eyes with poor-quality yarns that do unfortunately exist,” adds Otis, who has worked in the industry for a number of years and is adept at spinning a yarn or two.
Favouring a diet of termites, aardvarks are burrowing, nocturnal mammals native to Africa and look a bit like anteaters.
