Video content will help educate and engage customers.
Using genuine customer stories, product demonstrations and techniques will all help to educate customers, and is a powerful selling tool, William explained during one of the show's seminars.
Video is a medium that lends itself well to the craft industry, with customers much more likely to be interested in a product once they have witnessed the techniques involved in using it.
“Always entertain and add value,” said William, but he also warned that careful thought and planning are needed to execute a video correctly. “You can use a home-spun video, but do keep an eye on quality; an amateurish video can damage a brand, and so consider having a professional's help.
“If you do choose to commission a film maker, always make sure you provide a very clear brief,” he said. “Look around at other companies' videos and take inspiration from these – what works well and what doesn't? And talk to more than one person for two reasons – it's a very creative process and so you need to make sure that you have a good rapport with the maker, and you need watch out for 'fluffed up' quotes and people who may be charging what is beyond a reasonable amount.”
William cited YouTube as the best medium for video content. Being Google-owned it will be indexed in Google searches, and videos hosted on this platform are very easy to embed into a website blog.
