As the weather takes a turn for the worst, avid knitters will be getting out their needles and yarn once again to create their cosy Christmas masterpieces. Retail giant John Lewis, is helping people spark a passion for the craft by putting on a free knitting class for shoppers in Liverpool, and helping to raise some money for charity along the way.
In celebration of Wool Week 2011 (September 5-11), John Lewis Liverpool is hosting a ‘Love Wool’ class where customers can help support Marie Curie Cancer Care while learning to knit, felt and weave.
Participants will receive hands-on advice and learn professional techniques from expert knitters Rowan. During the class attendees will be encouraged to knit a square, which will then be patchworked together by Rowan Design Consultants to make blankets for the Marie Curie Hospice, Liverpool
The ‘Love Wool’ class will run in the haberdashery department on the first floor from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 8 for novice and experienced knitters alike. Whether customers are looking to improve their knitting skills, update their current techniques or simply join in Wool Week activities, the class aims to reignite the nation’s love of this fashionable, eco-friendly and durable material.
The Campaign for Wool was initiated in October 2008 by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales who observed that the wool industry was facing enormous and unprecedented challenges.
Jane Ogden, John Lewis haberdashery manager, John Lewis Liverpool, says: “Knitting groups are great for any skill level and we’re thrilled to be working with Rowan during Wool Week to inspire new knitters or those haven’t picked up the needles in a long time.”
