The industry's hottest show got underway on Sunday, offering visitors the chance to see the newest craft trends and projects and to take part in a diverse programme of educational and networking events. CHA's winter spectacular at the Anaheim Convention Centre in California, USA, is widely regarded as the biggest and best event in the world for the craft trade. With a stand in the UK pavilion, Craft Business is there to keep you up to speed on the latest happenings.
“It's a massive show and the dedicated scrapbook section is bigger than ever,” reports Craft Business editor Anna Blewett from the show floor. “There are plenty of new companies for visitors to check out.” Despite this, it seems that the event isn't proving to be as fashion-forward as usual. “There is perhaps not the innovation that some had hoped for,” Anna reveals.
Like January's Paperworld in Germany, it seems that visitor numbers are down, but the important figures are still in attendance. “Show veterans are reporting a decrease in overall traffic, but not in the attendance of large key buyers, ” Anna continues. “ But, it may be that fewer small independent shops are here.”
Following on from the success of the Asian halls at the Frankfurt show, CHA is proving popular with overseas exhibitors and visitors alike. “There is a great international presence, particularly the Japanese Pavilion,” Anna concludes.
