John Lewis has revealed it will be opening another two of its 'at home' branches this year, seeing the total number of its new format stores rise to four in less than two years.
The move, which is expected to generate even greater excitement about the DIY sector and see demand for home décor products rise considerably over the next few years, is evidence of the growing interest in this area over the last 24 months.
The two new stores will be opening in Swindon and Tunbridge Wells later this year, following the successful launch of its first 'at home' store in Poole last October. The retailer will also be opening a another outlet in Croydon this summer, and is believed to be investing up to £16 million in its latest branches.
Commenting on the success of the scheme, Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, says, “Our property team has been hard at work researching suitable sites for our ‘at home’ format and we’re thrilled our next shops will be in Wiltshire and Kent.
“We will continue to trial our John Lewis at home format in 2010, as we believe there is a really strong opportunity to grow our business in the home and electricals sector. We know our competitors have a much higher level of coverage in the UK, and our smaller shops will give our customers convenient access to our products,” he adds.
