Regional support agency Business Link has introduced a free online calculator to help employers avoid getting caught out over new wage laws. The new minimum wage legislation coming into effect on April 6th will see retailers landed with an automatic £5,000 if they fail to comply.

To help businesses ensure they meet the requirements, Business Link is offering a new 'minimum wage, entitlement, rate and arrears checker.' “There is demand for a tool, which takes into account all the specific details needed to ensure accuracy,” says Michaela Fitzgerald for Business Link. “There are other devices out there, but they don't offer this.”

She encourages employers to try the service, adding “The service is quick and easy to use and accommodates amounts paid to the worker, including expenses, allowances and any other additional information which needs to be taken into account.”

The service has been approved by HMRC and is available now, via the Business Link website http://www.businesslink.gov.uk Business Link also offers guidance and support to businesses both online and through local advisors. In the past 12 months, nearly a million customers have sought its help.
