The past few days have seen some of the biggest names in the craft, paper and stationary industry flock to Frankfurt for one of the industry's most eagerly-anticipated events of the year.
Organised by Messe Frankfurt, Creativeworld attracted a record number of guests in 2011, occupied more floor space than ever and featured some of the most innovative products launched in the industry to date.
Providing an invaluable insight into some of the key trends set to dominate the market over the next 12 months – home décor, patchwork, mosaics and decoupage, most notably – the exhibition attracted individuals from a greater number of countries than ever – 154 in total – and saw some of the UK's leading craft companies boast their own stands, including Kars, Rico, Marabu and Create and Craft.
Commenting on the huge turnout at the exhibition, Simon Duncan of Kars says, “The show has been absolutely fantastic for us and much busier than the recent CHA event, which was definitely much quieter than usual. The European market is generally become far more important around the world and leading industry trends more than ever.”
The mood at the show was certainly very upbeat, with both those exhibiting and attending commenting on the huge growth of the sector over the past year.
Judging by the products showcased at the exhibition, home décor looks set to be a big trend over the next year, with anything that can be used for decoupage, origami and crafting projects out of paper, including everything from little hats and boxes to lampshades and jewellery, doing especially well. Items telling a story are also going to be very much in favour, as are mosaic-like pieces made using multi-coloured pieces of stone.
