The Festival of Quilts Returns for Eighth Year in 2011

This August will see the prestigious Festival of Quilts return for its eighth year at the NEC Birmingham. Taking its place as the largest quilting event in Europe, the occasion will attract quilt enthusiasts from all over, eager to get involved in the action. Renowned as a gathering of all things quilted, the festival will feature over 300 companies selling a wide variety of patchwork and quilting supplies, as well as hosting a selection of creative workshops and lectures.
Last year around 34,000 people travelled from over 54 countries around the globe, to experience the festival, highlighting the wide reputation the event has built up over the years. For 2011, the shopping opportunities are set to be extensive, alongside the workshop sessions aimed at quilters of all abilities, taught by talented teachers and respected artists.
As always quilts will be on display in their thousands, providing a colourful spectacle and demonstrating work from professional artists such as Pia Welsch and Barbara Weeks.
Pia is set to have a gallery of her own work on display, and will be unveiling 'Scheherazades Reveries'- her new exhibit focused on the shape of the oval, at the festival for the first time ever. The American Museum in Britain, will also be displaying a selection of their quilts, giving visitors a taster of the wide variety held at the museum, including textiles and embroidery. The display will include classes American designs such as Log Cabin and a bold Hawaiian print.
