The owner of a popular knitting shop has been voted one of the UK's top entrepeneurs by Dragon's Den star, Peter Jones.
Susan Cropper, who runs the incredibly popular and well-regarded yarn store Loop in Islington, beat off competition from hundreds of other entries in the BT Business Awards and is becoming something of a celebrity in the craft world.
Speaking to the Islington Gazette, Ms Cropper says, “For Loop to be one of the winners means so much to me. It has been a labour of love over the past few years and for all my hard work and passion to be recognised is fabulous. I have always been involved with textiles but this is my first shop.”
Commenting on the growth of the sector, she adds, “Fortunately, we're based in a great location and there are a lot of young families about. Lots of young women are knitting now and I would say my core clientele are ladies in their 20s to 40s. However, we have lots of older women and professional men too."
Head judge Mr Jones, who is well-known for his keen eye for business, believes the competition could not have come at a better time, saying, “The winners are bucking a trend, creating stand-out businesses, harnessing the developments of technology, and thriving. I was massively impressed with the standard of entries and diversity of the entrepreneurs, and I congratulate the winners for being selected.”
