Retailer, Mathew Hill, from Mountain Ash Crafts, explains how charity projects can be a boost for business
I enjoy reading Crafts Business and find it useful and informative. There is excellent advice on making your business more profitable, together with useful contacts. At Mountain Ash Crafts, we have found that working with other organisations and charities is a great way for retailers to make a difference and raise the profile of their business. We have been amazed by the response and the generosity of our customers. This has been an excellent project for the business and I would like to inspire other retailers to work with charities.
We are a card making and scrapbooking retailer, based in a Craft Centre within Halfpenny Green Vineyards. Mountain Ash Crafts has been in business for five years and is focused on good value and customer service. We are currently building a new craft unit to allow us to offer more demonstration and workshop space.
We have found there are two major benefits of getting involved with charity partners. To demonstrate that the company is caring and people focused and to help raise itsprofile at very little cost. As business owners, we are in a position to make a difference and help others. When helping others the media is more interested in your business.
Good nature
What appeals to the crafter is the feeling of being involved and that they can make a difference and help others, whilst enjoying their favourite pastime. We initially got involved with Compton Hospice through the local Chamber of Commerce.
If you are a craft business and interested in getting involved, then I would recommend contacting your selected local charity and ask if they have a corporate fundraiser that can help you with your campaign. You need a good idea, preferably related to your business.
