Want to tempt crafters to spend more? Get on-trend says Sara Naumann of Hot Off The Press
Creamy milk chocolate, luscious dark chocolate, sweet white chocolate…who can resist? While chocolate in its edible form is a natural favorite with papercrafters, the rich tones and shades of chocolate-colored supplies are also making a big hit. Why? Because brown, black and white are simply some of the easiest colours to use for cards and scrapbook pages. As neutrals, they won’t overwhelm a photograph or take away from a card focal. And they’re perfect for masculine cards or heritage projects. It’s all part of the 'back to basics' trend too. Classic colours and simple patterns are solid sellers – especially for the mainstream consumer. So how can a retailer make the basics exciting? By combining basic supplies with fresh techniques and products.
Rich chocolate colors make heritage scrapbook pages easy. This vintage-inspired page makes use of the border printed on the paper itself—the four photographs overlap in the cream section, while matching silk flowers embellish along the faux-ribbon border. The swirls on the page are traced from our Swirly Doodles template. This is a great example of a quick and easy layout that doesn’t look hastily put together, as it manages to fit four photos on the page, plus substantial journaling and delicate details.
Basic paper patterns are ideal for innovative applications. Alter-able surfaces like portfolios, pockets, mini albums and more are making a splash in the papercrafting world. A few easy-to-use papers and matching embellishments make it quick and easy to add a coordinated touch to a fun new surface. Basic paper patterns give dimension and style to a smaller surface without being overwhelming.
Papers patterned with classic designs are perfect for integrating innovative techniques. 'Fold-it link' borders can be made with a template; making it a great demo or class technique. Simply trace and cut the desired number of links, using the same paper, or combining different papers. Cut with a craft knife or small scissors. When customers see how easy it is, you’ll sell the template and the papers!
Basic patterns; classic colours; simple designs. No wonder chocolate is such a hit with papercrafters!
